Raise Awareness – Recognise the impact of childhood sexual abuse on individuals across the lifespan, including how it can shape coping behaviours such as substance use.
Deepen Understanding – Explore the connections between trauma, substance misuse, and mental health, and understand the barriers survivors may face in seeking help.
Encourage Trauma-Informed Approaches – Apply principles of trauma-informed practice to offer support in ways that promote safety, trust, empowerment, and respect.
This course contains references to childhood sexual abuse, trauma, and substance misuse. These are difficult and emotional topics that may bring up strong feelings or personal memories.
It is important to acknowledge that you may be a survivor, or may have close personal connections to these issues.
You are encouraged to go through the material at your own pace and to step away if you need a break. Your wellbeing comes first.
