Counselling & Therapy

Our counselling service is for adults (people aged 18 and over) who live in the Barnsley area.

Counselling offers you the chance to think and talk about your feelings confidentially, with a qualified professional who won’t judge you or tell you what to do.

Counselling appointments take place in our counselling rooms at, usually at the same time each week, and last around 50 minutes.

All BSARCS counsellors have completed specialist training in sexual violence so they can better understand what you’re going through and support you appropriately.

If you think counselling might be right for you, you can call us on 01226 320140 to refer yourself to this service.

We understand that reaching out can be hard. To make a self referral the information we will ask you for is:

  • Which part of our service you would like support from
  • Your name
  • Your date of birth
  • A phone number we can contact you on
  • Your home address
  • Whether it’s OK to leave you a voicemail, send you text message(s), and/or post a letter to your home from BSARCS

We have temporarily closed our Children’s therapy waiting list. If you have any questions please call us on 01226 320140

Our therapy service is for children and young people aged from 0 up to 17.

To be able to use this service, a child or young person needs to:

  • Be aged 0 up to 17

  • Have experienced sexual abuse that has been reported to and investigated by the police and/or social services – and any criminal proceedings need to have ended before therapy begins
  • Be in a safe and stable environment
  • Have given their consent to taking part in therapy (for younger children, a parent’s or carer’s consent is required)

If you’re supporting a child who meets all of these criteria, or if you’re thinking about whether therapy might be right for your child or a child you care for but aren’t sure, you can give us a call on 01226 320140 to talk about it.
