BSARCS - Barnsley Sexual Abuse & Rape Crisis Services (formerly known as Barnsley Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Helpline - BSARCH), became a registered charity in 1989, and opened initially as a voluntary helpline service for women who had been raped or sexually abused.
Since then we have developed to offer more comprehensive services for all of Barnsley's residents.
Our main aims are:
- To support individuals and families who have experienced sexual abuse or rape at any point in their lives, irrespective of age, gender, culture or religion.
- To raise awareness of the issues surrounding sexual violence.
- Central to our aim is that we listen to and believe those who have experienced abuse.
BSARCS employs only professionally qualified staff who continue to undertake relevant specialist training. The organisation is a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and also of the Telephone Helplines Association, Rape Crisis England & Wales and The Survivors Trust.
The organisation is headed by a board of trustees from a variety of backgrounds who ensure that BSARCS adhere to current legislation. We have all relevant policies and procedures in place including Child Protection and Safeguarding policies.
BSARCS is grateful to those organisations who have recognised that sexual violence affects hundreds of thousands of people and have shown their commitment by supporting the work BSARCS offers to local people. Currently those organisations include; Big Lottery, Comic Relief, Lloyds TSB Foundation, the Home Office, Children in Need and the Ministry of Justice.
